Nature & culture in the heart of Sardinia

A trip to the Marmilla region, roughly halfway between Cagliari and Oristano, is particularly worthwhile for nature lovers. Here you can explore the impressive Giara di Gesturi plateau, which is surrounded by huge cork oak forests and marshland. With a bit of luck, you may come across wild horses, which still live in complete freedom in this untouched landscape.

On the edge of the Marmilla is the village of Barumini, known for the Nuraghe Su Nuraxi, one of the largest and most visited prehistoric settlements in Sardinia. These unique nuragic structures were built by the early Nuragic culture around the 15th century BC and can only be found in Sardinia.

Just 700 meters from Barumini, in the direction of Tuili, is the “Sardinia in Miniature” theme park, a worthwhile excursion destination for the whole family. Covering an area of 30,000 square meters, all the important buildings and sights of Sardinia are presented in miniature format – an ideal opportunity to get to know the island and its history in a compact way.
